Suning opens up online marketplace

Suning is to open a marketplace enabling individuals and small businesses to sell their products online.

The Chinese home appliance retailer plans to make the marketplace live in September.

It says the marketplace is its strategy to boost e-commerce business.

“The open market will maximise the use of our company’s own resources, including our data, logistic systems and even the large network of our own stores,” said vice chairman Sun Weimin.

Suning’s e-commerce business grew 101 per cent to 10.6 billion yuan ($1.73 billion) in the first half.

Suning also operates around 1700 bricks-and-mortar stores across China, a network it plans to expand to 3500 by 2020.
