FamilyMart eyes China expansion

Japanese convenience chain FamilyMart says it will open an unspecified number of new stores this year.

FamilyMart said business in China, where it currently has 1050 stores, has been profitable. Without disclosing the number of stores to be opened, it says it will actively open outlets in China.

The convenience chain has been improving its profitability, closing unprofitable stores and opening at locations with larger population catchments.

In its home market, FamilyMart also plans a massive expansion with 3000 new outlets to be opened over the next three years.
