Spar Sri Lanka targets 50 stores by 2023

Newly launched Spar Sri Lanka plans to open 50 stores by 2023.

Spar International has partnered with Spar South Africa and Ceylon Biscuits Ltd to launch Spar Sri Lanka. Its goal is to develop independent Sri Lanka retailers bringing them under the globally recognised Spar banner.

Sri Lanka marks the company’s sixth Asian market and its 48th worldwide.

The first Spar Sri Lanka store was formally opened in Colombo last week. The 1000sqm supermarket has a focus on fresh foods, including a wide range of produce, meat and an in-store bakery.

“The high-quality Spar stores currently being developed will offer great value and a wide range of choice, with an emphasis on freshness and service,” a Spar spokesperson said. “Spar Sri Lanka will also be offering shoppers an extensive range of exclusive Spar Own Brand products sourced both internationally and locally.”

Wayne Hodson, CEO of Spar Sri Lanka, said his company wants to develop and grow local, independent retailers, supporting them through the implementation of efficient supply chain management, stock procurement, promotional and marketing support, IT and retail leadership.
