Saigon Co.op, owner of Co.op Food stores and Co.opMart supermarkets, will open nine food stores and supermarkets ahead of the Lunar New Year holiday when consumption is expected to surge.

Five new Co.opMart supermarkets will be opened in Can Gio District, Bac Lieu, Bao Loc Town in Lam Dong province, Tra Vinh province and Vinh Phuc while four new Co.op Food stores will be set up at industrial parks, processing zones and outskirts of Ho Chi Minh.

The additional five supermarkets will take the Co.opMart supermarkets chain to 57 throughout the country.

According to Saigon Co.op deputy general director Nguyen Thanh Nhan Co.opMart will also operate more than 100 mobile stores on Lunar New Year selling locally produced essential goods. The supermarket chain will also conduct promotional activities such as gifts and discounts during the holiday.

The product volume in every Co.op store and supermarket has been increased to prepare for the rising in spending at the year’s end when trade is expected to be three to four times that of normal trading.
