Mini Isetan for Haneda Airport
Isetan Mitsukoshi Holdings, parent of Isetan and Mitsukoshi department stores, will set up a mini department store at Haneda Airport in spring 2012.
The new store, to be built at Terminal 1, will target mainly businessmen who are frequent fliers. It will sell men’s general merchandise such as leather goods and shoes and gift lines of foodstuffs.
Mitsukoshi says opening an Isetan mini department store at the airport, close to downtown Tokyo, is the company’s way of taking its offer closer to its customers.
“We shouldn’t just wait for customers at the store. We need to go to them,” said an Isetan Mitsukoshi spokesperson.
Isetan Mitsukoshi will also open a shop at Lumine Shinjuku shopping centre, adjoining JR Shinjuku Station in Tokyo. The store will measure just 150 to 200 sqm and will primarily stock cosmetics. About 20 national and international cosmetic brands including RMK and Lancome will be featured.
The Isetan store in Lumine Shinjuku will be staffed by assistants with broad knowledge of different brands and able to help customers compare different products.
The company also aims to open 20 to 30 shops in shopping centres and train station buildings in the next few years. Isetan Mitsukoshi will be competing with the newly opened luxury cosmetic shop of Aeon Co at Koshigaya, Saitama Prefecture.
