‘Malls of Joy’ planned for eight Indian cities

Jeweller Joyalukkas Group says it will open eight Malls of Joy in India within 30 months, built around the concept of catering to celebrations.

“We are venturing into and setting a new path in the mall business,” said Joy Alukkas, chairman of Joyalukkas Group.

“Customers have always blessed Joyalukkas with their loyalty and trust and we hope they enjoy this new spirit of celebration shopping we are creating for them.”

The concept is to offer consumers a shopping destination for all their ‘celebrations’ – be it weddings, birthdays, festivals or anniversaries.

“Mall of Joy will feature the retail mix to cater to the shopping needs of any celebration or occasion,” said Alukkas.

The eight Mall of Joy has been budgeted Rs. 1000 crores and will be located in Aleppey, Trichur, Trivandrum, Cochin, Kottayam, Palakkad, Coimbatore and Kozhikode. Each mall will be spread across a minimum area of 2 lakh sqft (18,580.608 sqm).

Kozhikode will be the first city to get Mall of Joy, scheduled to open in March 2012. Mall of Joy in Kozhikode will cater mix of retailers including jewellery, silks, fashion and clothing, accessories, cosmetics, footwear, watches and eyewear. It will also house beauty parlours, food courts, restaurants and a children’s area.

“Shopping brings pleasure to people’s lives, so we thought a mall committed to making every celebration in a shoppers life extra special will delight them even more,” said Alukkas.

“Today’s consumers love choices and the convenience of a destination that offers them the best of all under one roof during every shopping trip. Mall of Joy, will cater to all their needs with respect to any celebrations or occasions.”

The properties will bear the tagline “The Celebration Mall”.
