Aged Hong Kong mall closes

Two Hong Kong retail landmarks – President Shopping Centre and UA Cinemas at Times Square – have come to an end.

According to the president of environmental group Green Sense, the premises are to be occupied by luxury goods retailers.

Tenants occupying at President Shopping Centre, in Causeway Bay, are nostalgic about the closure but can do little as the businesses which own the propertues have the final say.

Completed in the 1960s, the President Shopping Centre, is considered one of the oldest shopping complexes in Hong Kong.

Meanwhile, UA Cinemas at Times Square, also in Causeway Bay, offered movie goers a pre-closure day on Sunday for those who wish to enjoy the last films at the cinema. About 3000 movie goers took up the HK$18 (US$2.32) special price per ticket which symbolises the 18th year of its operation.
