Middle East coffee chain hits Asia

Small Middle Eastern cafe brand Coffee Planet has opened first Asia cafe in Malaysia.

The first Malaysian Coffee Planet has opened in Shah Alam, the state capital of Selangor.

With a floor area of 1500sqft it is just the sixth Coffee Planet outlet, which has four cafes in the UAE and one in Oman. The Shah Alam store takes design features from Coffee Planet cafes in Dubai with an added touch of local designs reflecting Malaysian culture.

“Each Coffee Planet café will have the same signature buzz, the same great coffee, but we also want our franchise partners to bring in an element of their own individuality, creating unique venues under the brand umbrella, not just generic copies of the original,” said Coffee Planet Dubai MD Richard Jones.

Coffee Planet’s offerings include hot drinks such as latte, cappuccino, espresso and Americano, sandwiches, salads, desserts, and juices. Its coffee beans are roasted in its own facility in Dubai.

Coffee Planet plans three more cafes in Malaysia this year.

“Coffee Planet Malaysia aims to become a major coffee player in the Malaysian market by 2016 through leveraging on our unique concept of cafes, kiosks, carts, espresso bars. We want to reach out to consumers wherever they may be,” said Coffee Planet Malaysia MD Mohd Fadzlan Abdul Samad.
