Mango now in Sri Lanka

Through a partnership with Sri Lankan company Softlogic Group, Spanish high-street fashion brand Mango has extended its reach to Sri Lanka.

The first store opened in Colombo on Bagathale Rd, taking its global store count to 2400 and its country penetration to 106.

The 192sqm Mango store is designed to a wabi-sabi style, a Japanese term for an aesthetic with characteristics of simplicity, asperity, intimacy and appreciation of the ingenuous integrity of natural objects and processes. It offers womens wear including evening wear, smart wear, casual wear and accessories.

“Mango is pursuing its international expansion and staying true to its aim of being present in each of the main cities in the world with the opening of its first store in Sri Lanka,” it said in a statement.

In its annual report in 2010, Mango boasted a turnover of 1.27 billion euros (US$1.68 billion), 81 per cent of which were accounted by its foreign markets.

Founded in Barcelona in 1984, Mango is now the world’s second largest clothing retailer behind fellow Spanish company Inditex, which now has 5400 stores in 78 countries.

Franchisee Softlogic Group also operates other international brands’ Sri Lanka presence including Nike, Levi’s and Giordano.
