Gundam-themed mall opens in Tokyo

Tokyo’s newest shopping destination, DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is not only a haven for fashion-savvies, but also for Gundam fans.

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza in Tokyo at Odaiba waterfront district which opened on Thursday allows shoppers to experience Gundam up close. Standing on the grounds in front of the building is the eye-catching 18-metre Gundam statue.

On the seventh floor is the Gundam Front Tokyo, a 16-metre wide hemispherical dome which features attractions of Gundam series including more than 1000 displays of plastic models and Gundam apparel shop. Admission costs 1000 yen (US$13) for adults while other areas are free of charge.

Customers are allowed to take photos with their favorite Gundam characters at the Character Photo Spot.

  

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza also houses Gundam Cafe which offers menu items such as Haro latte, exclusive Gundam, Char’s Zaku and Acguy lattes and gifts items like key chains, mugs and other souvenirs. Located on the second floor, DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is Gundam Cafe’s second location after one in the Akihabara district.

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is home to 154 fashion brand shops, including such domestic and international names as Uniqlo, H&M, Armani Jeans, Zara, Lacoste, Forever21, American Eagle Outfitters, Old Navy, Coach and Adidas.

For food lovers, DiverCity Tokyo Plaza also features Tokyo Gourmet Stadium, a 700 seat food court where customers can find a variety of well-established Tokyo restaurants and international cuisine.

For non-Japanese shoppers, DiverCity Tokyo Plaza offers multilingual signage and a foreign exchange counter.

DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is operated by Mitsui Fudosan which also operates Tokyo Midtown, Mitsui Outlet Park and Akasaka Biz Tower.
