Denmark’s Tiger lands in Asia

Denmark-based variety store chain Tiger will launch its first store in Asia at Osaka, Japan on July 21.

The store, located at American Village in Osaka’s Shinsaibashi district, will be the retailer’s first store outside Europe.

“Our goal is to sell high-fashion, good quality items at low, set prices,” said Claus Falsig, representative director for Tiger in Japan.

Falsig stressed that Tiger products will be different to those offered in similar stores in Japan.

“Mostly, we sell products that have been designed especially for Tiger, or products we have designed ourselves,” he said.

Tiger offers products including homewares, stationery, toiletries, toys and accessories priced below £30 (US$47).

Tiger plans to open 65 new stores this year including two more in Osaka. Next year will see the retailer extending its reach in Tokyo and other Japanese cities.

From its first launch in 1995 in Copenhagen, Tiger’s stores now number  140 across 16 European countries including Britain and Germany.
