Japanese retailer heads abroad

Japanese fashion brand Double Standard Clothing has opened its first overseas store – in Hong Kong.

The shop is inside the newly completed Hysan Place mall at Causeway Bay. It boasts a polished interior to match the chic design of the brand’s clothing.

Double Standard Clothing has more than 40 stores in Japan. In Hong Kong it will be distributed and operated by SEPV Company which is also involved in information technology, food and beverage, real estate and business consulting.

“The vibrant retail environment in Hong Kong has encouraged our development into the retail sector by introducing the popular Japanese fashion brand, Double Standard Clothing, into the market,” said Norihisa Nagata, president of SEPV.

“In turn, Hong Kong serves as a significant platform for evaluating the capacity of our brand in relation to our business plans ahead.”

The entry of Double Standard Clothing is yet another example of retail brands using Hong Kong as a springboard and test market prior to entering the mainland China market or other Asia-Pacific markets.
