Bata India profits up

Indian footwear retailer and manufacturer Bata India saw a 15 per cent increase in its net sales for the quarter to September 30.

The company reported notable changes in the retail environment with low consumer sentiments and lower customer traffic for key retailers. Despite the changing retail dynamics, Bata was consistent in its growth and profit for he period was up by six per cent.

“We have good results this quarter and the consistent growth in our retail and non retail businesses has made the quarter successful for the company,” said Bata India MD Rajeev Gopalakrishnan.

“We will continue our focus to expand the retail outlets and improve the merchandise with newer and better designs to provide the Indian consumers the best in footwear,” he said.

Bata has opened 33 new stores this quarter, all based on a new large format model with floor areas above 3000sqft, spread across metros, first-tier and second-tier cities.

Its Hush Puppies brand also saw expansion with the opening of three exclusive new stores and one shop-in-shops in leading department stores in the same period. The company also added one new Footin store.

The company launched Sundrops, a new premium range of footwear for women. It also introduced a new collection of Angry Birds merchandise, offering school shoes, casual shoes and accessories for children and teenagers.

In addition, the quarter saw the launch of the latest range for men by Bata and Malini Ramani for Bata, Hush Puppies, Ambassador and Moccassino.

Bata India has more than 1250 Bata Shoe Stores in over 500 cities across India.
