If Singapore Airport was a shopping centre, it would be the city state’s second largest.
The recent expansion of retail space in the revamp of Terminal 1 completed in July takes the total lettable area to 74,000sqm – about the size of four football fields according to Changi Airport Group (CAG) spokesman Ivan Tan.
The Straits Times newspaper this week reported that the airport’s retail space has grown by about 10 per cent this year thanks to the Terminal 1 projcet and a revamp of Terminal 3.
Tan said the terminals’ combined shopping area is now larger than any mall except the city’s largest, Vivo City, which boasts about 30 per cent more space.
Terminal 1 now has 110 restaurants and food outlets and shops and Terminal 3 now has about 50.
Terminal 3 features an upper floor which non-travelling public can access. That now boasts two anchor retail stores – Electronics Hub @ T3 and The Planet Traveller.
