Black Canyon eyes Asia-wide expansion

Black Canyon, the Thai company which operates coffee shops, is eyeing expansion across the Asian continent.

The company plans to speed up local and international expansion through partnerships. It said it is in talks with petrol conglomerate PTT to open Black Canyon coffee shops in PTT petrol stations in Cambodia, Laos and the Philippines.

The chain currently has 240 coffee shops in Thailand and 45 overseas including Malaysia, Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, Indonesia, Singapore, the Philippines and Dubai. Five new outlets will be added in Indonesia next year while Myanmar will get additional two.

Next year will also see the company opening 15 to 20 new outlets in Thailand where it expects sales to grow 15 per cent this year.

The competition in the food industry is anticipated to heat up with the upcoming Asean Economic Community, however, Black Canyon is confident it is well positioned to compete successfully.

“Even though competition in the food industry will become more intense in the coming year as new players enter the Asean market, particularly from Japan and South Korea, I believe we have the capability to compete in the market,” said founder Pravit Chitnarapong.

While famous for being a coffee shop brand, Black Canyon also offers extensive food menu such as soups, salads, pasta and noodles.
