Esprit warns of loss

Hong Kong retailer Esprit is expecting to record a loss for the six months to December 31 due to worse than expected operating results for the period.

The warning comes after the retailer missed earnings forecasts in September as slowing economies in China and Europe dragged its businesses down.

The company, which is struggling to ‘bring back its soul’ after earnings fell 98 per cent last year, says it will continue to focus its efforts to rebuild and revitalise the brand, to overhaul its product engine and to provide better efficiencies in its supply chain and distribution channels.

“These actions will help us in capturing opportunities for further business growth when the market recovers,” said Esprit in a statement.
