Thai chicken chain now in India

Charoen Pokphand Group-owned Five Star Chicken now caters to Indians with its debut in the country.

The Thai fried chicken chain has opened its first four Indian outlets in Bangalore. The high purchasing power of Bangalore residents willing to try new things has made the company choose the city for its first outlets.

As a newcomer to the market, Charoen Pokphand says it will spend 100 million baht to promote the chain among Indians and plans to expand to 500 outlets in five years.

Several alterations have been made to the menu to adapt to local tastes – for instance, more varieties of local seasonings have been added to the chicken which is less spicy than in Thailand.

While many Indians are vegetarian, the company believes the changing lifestyles of the consumers will generate demand for its products.

The debut of Five Star Chicken creates competition for local chicken chains Venkys, Suguna and Godrej.
