India’s first ‘virtual shopping wall’ opens

The newest retail offering at Delhi Indira Gandhi International Airport allows passengers to shop by scanning the “virtual products” on the wall.

India’s e-commerce company, HomeShop18, has collaborated with the airport to introduce a virtual shopping wall called “Scan N Shop”. Located at Terminal 3 Domestic Pier Junction, the virtual shopping wall allows passengers to scan products such as consumer electronics, jewellery, accessories and perfumes.

Shoppers can place orders by scanning the QR codes displayed under each product or via phone call. Since the shopping technology is on its trial, payment can only be done upon delivery, however, HomeShop18 promises to introduce mobile payment soon.

“The idea behind “Scan N Shop” is to enable tech-savvy, smartphone and tablet users to experience a smart new way of shopping. In DIAL, we have found a true innovator as a partner. T3 is a marvellous lifestyle destination and “Scan N Shop” couldn’t have found a better location,” said HomeShop18 founder and CEO Sundeep Malhotra.

“Scan N Shop is India’s big bang dive into the world of mobile shopping,” added the CEO.

DIAL CEO Prabhakara Rao said the new offering is an addition to an eclectic list of innovations that Delhi Airport already hosts. The airport handles 45,000 departing passengers daily.

HomeShop18 also pioneered home TV shopping in India in 2008. Currently, it carries a portfolio of more than 12 million products across many categories and boasts a customer base of more than 100 million.
