Vera Wang opens Shanghai flagship

Queen of bridal couture Vera Wang has opened her largest flagship store in the world – in Shanghai.

The store on the corner of Xintiandi is the designer’s fourth flagship globally. It spans 850sqm over two floors and features three dressing rooms and one VIP room. The store with frosted glass facade offers collections ready for fitting to brides-to-be.

The wedding dresses range from 30,000 yuan (US$4815) to 300,000 yuan (US$48,174). For customers who would like to try a wedding dress, a non-refundable fee of 3000 yuan (US$481) is requested. The fee will be deducted from the amount of the wedding gown once the customer purchased it. The “fitting fee” is said to be the designer’s way of protecting its designs.

The flagship store demonstrates Vera Wang’s confidence about the Chinese market, says executive director Jiang Yixiang.

“We have carried out research and we see great potential in the high-end bridal couture market,” he said.

New York-based designer Vera Wang has made wedding gowns for well-known public figures including Victoria Beckham, Jennifer Lopez, Mariah Carey and Alicia Keys, to name a few.
