Thai CRC creates own cash-and-carry brand

Central Retail Corporation (CRC) has showed its determination to add a cash-and carry business in its portfolio.

Since it lost in the bid to buy cash-and-carry store chain Siam Makro, CRC has created its owned cash-and-carry brand called Superkhum which is translated as ‘super cost effective’.

CRC has transformed its Tops Supermarket on Theparak Rd into Superkhum which targets wholesalers.

“This is a pilot project to test the market and if we receive good feedback, we will gradually convert other standalone Tops Supermarkets to Superkhum,” according to a company source.

CRC, which operates different retail formats such as department stores, bookstores, electrical appliance stores, hardware and home-improvement stores, supermarkets and convenience stores, has been aiming to operate cash-and-carry business for long time due to the format’s good cash flow and loose competition.
