New China mall in the making

Real estate company Jiachuang Group is to build an underground shopping mall in Guangzhou.

The 280,000 sqm shopping centre is a part of a four level development project Wanbo CBD which include an underground transportation system and underground municipal facilities. The shopping centre will sit on levels one and two, which is the key focus of the design project.

The whole development project contains shopping streets, a high-end supermarket, high fashion department stores, an Imax Cinema, amusement centres, gyms, clubs, spa, banking, a playground and sports fields, including a skating rink. The facility will also include plazas, sky bridges, sky decks, sky lights, gardens, fountains, sculptures and canals.

It is designed with the styles of Broadway, London Garden, Champs Elysee and Rodeo Drive.

Jiachuang Group’s ambition about the project is not only to build a shopping complex, but to create a travel destination comprising retail, entertainment, lifestyle, and art experiences, it says.

“With the huge advantages of combining the underground transportation system with the underground commercial space and the convenience of future extensions which connect with city highways, train stations, and airports, the Wanbo underground commercial space will certainly become a paradise for shopping, family trips, and weekend visits in the Pearl River Delta, Zhusanjiao,” says the company.

Architecture firm Aphronze Architects is the designer of the project.
