China’s Shang Xia heads for Paris

Chinese brand Shang Xia has confirmed it will open its first international store.

The brand – backed by French luxury fashion house Hermes – has set its opening in Paris in September. Spanning 70 sqm, the Paris store will be located on Rue de Sevres, next to Hermes.

Founded in 2008, Shang Xia currently operates two stores in Shanghai and Beijing. According to Hermes CEO Patrick Thomas, the Paris opening will be a test of its appeal to global consumers.

Shang xia, a Mandarin Chinese word which means “up” and “down”, offers collections which include furniture, decorative objects, accessories and luxury garments. The brand also creates limited edition of cultural objects which reflect guardianship, tradition and remembrance.

Artistic director Jiang Qiong Er said Shang Xia was created to “marry the elegance of traditional lifestyle with contemporary city living”.

Most of Shang Xia’s products are priced slightly lower than those of Hermes.
