Auchan plans Indian expansion

French retailer Auchan is demonstrating its confidence in India’s retail market by revealing an expansion plan.

Auchan has 13 hypermarkets in India, operating through a franchise agreement with Max Hypermarket of Landmark Group.

The two retailers say they plan to open 12 to 15 stores per year.

The most recent addition to the Indian chain is a hypermarket in Chennai, the largest in the city. It offers 18,000 food and non-food SKUs.

Later this year, Auchan will open six stores in Punjab and Uttar Pradesh, a second store in Chennai and two stores in Bangalore.
