7-Eleven to open 300 stores in Chongqing

Convenience store chain 7-Eleven is expanding to Chongqing, planning to open 300 stores in the south western city.

The first Chongqing 7-Eleven store is expected to open this year.

7-Eleven is currently operating in Shanghai, Beijing and Guangzhou.

The Chongqing stores are to be run by a joint venture between Mitsui & Co Ltd, Southern Hope Industrial and Seven-Eleven Investment Co Ltd.

With an overall population of 30 million, Chongqing is expected to undergo significant economic development in future as one of inland China’s core cities. Growth in demand for convenience stores and other retail business is expected to accompany the rapid economic expansion, the company says.
