Ion Orchard recognised

Ion Orchard shopping mall has won the Gold Prix d’Excellence Award presented by the International Real Estate Federation (FIABCI).

The Singapore mall was the only shopping centre to win at this year’s awards, acknowledged for both its design and project planning.

The FIABCI Prix d’Excellence Awards recognises projects that embody excellence in real estate and “reward holistic schemes that demonstrate outstanding merit” across an array of criteria.

After winning a Singapore property award in 2012, Ion Orchard was nominated for this new one, winning from a group of retail developments from around the world.

Ion Orchard has taken on significant national importance since opening in 2009, becoming a retail landmark for the city and selected as one of four ‘Service Icons’ by the Singapore government.

The mall’s design has drawn inspiration from the site’s antecedents as an orchard. Ion Orchard is a mixed-use development comprising a 125,000 sqm retail centre, art gallery, leisure deck and residential tower.

Designed by architect firm Benoy, Ion Orchard is a joint venture development by Sun Hung Kai Properties and CapitaLand.

“The award is very prestigious and sincerely validates how successful and important the design of Ion to Singapore and the global real estate industry,” said David Buffonge, Benoy’s director for Asia and principal architect for Ion.
