Most Indians use coupons

A majority of Indians admit to using coupons while shopping online.

According to a recent study by cuponation.in, 500 out of 600 Indian respondents are attracted to promotions issued by online retailers.

Coupons are major contributors for the rise in online shopping in India, says the study. Approximately 85 per cent use coupons to make use of discounts in India, compared to 78 per cent globally.

“The online shopping scene and the concept of using coupons in India looks very promising as compared to the advanced markets for online marketing such as the US, Germany and Brazil,” said cuponation.in co-founder and MD Sahil Shah.

The largest share of traffic for coupons and discounts comes from search engines, social media sites and blogs such as Google, Facebook and Twitter which play an important role in popularising coupons and online marketing.

E-mail marketing done by the companies also update the subscribers with the new deals and discounts.

The study also revealed that 76 per cent shop online on an average of three times or more in a month. The big influx of traffic for the online shopping portals is due to the emergence and popularity of online stores such as Flipkart, Myntra, Jabong, Tradus, Dominos, Bookmyshow and several others that have been working hard to change and revolutionise online shopping in India.

A reliable payment system and better services such as cash on delivery are other factors that attract Indians to shop online.
