Bata India opens largest store

Footwear retailer Bata India has opened its largest store in India.

The store in the Viviana Mall in Thane, spans 20,000 sqft and stocks more 2500 styles of footwear and accessories.

Bata India MD Rajeev Gopalakrishnan said the company’s objective is to make shoe shopping a more ‘pleasurable affair’ for consumers and maximise the amount of merchandise available under one roof.

The company operates more than 1250 stores in India and is constantly expanding, opening at least 100 stores every year.

It has reported 17.6 per cent jump in net profit at Rs61.94 crore for the second quarter ending June 30 on back of 13.6 per cent growth in sales.

“It has been a good year and we continue to see stronger growth with greater opportunities. The robust quarterly performance reflects our strong understanding on the consumer needs and our relentless focus on quality sales growth,” said Gopalakrishnan.

“We expect to benefit from our aggressive retail expansion, newer designs and newer product ranges in the future. We are confident our momentum will accelerate in line with our expectations as we move through the year.”
