Thai bakery chain set for expansion

Thailand’s Mr Bun is to expand its stores to 150 at home and abroad in three years.

The Thai bakery chain says it will invest 100 million baht ($3.1 million) over the next three years to open up to 30 stores annually.

It is looking to establish franchise and joint venture partnerships in Asean countries particularly in Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines.

Its expansion plan is expected to fuel sales of 520 million baht ($16.4 million) by 2015.

The bakery chain has the capability to finance its expansion plan, having got an investment from its new owner DNA 2002, a home entertainment and media company, which can help Mr Bun boost its brand awareness through its media channels.

Mr Bun’s stores are expected to increase to 70 by the end of the year while sales are expected to hit 189 million baht ($5.9 million).

“2013 is a golden year for Mr Bun. Though the economy is slowing, our sales in the first seven months of this year grew by 48.7 per cent to 26.9 million baht,” said Anusorn Tanyakul, MD of Bun Co, the operator of Mr Bun.
