Uniqlo sales boom

Japanese brand Uniqlo has seen its sales in August rise a stunning 29 per cent.

It attributed the sales rise on strong demand for summer apparel and said it was the highest monthly increase since the 36 per cent of October 2009.

The operating profit in Uniqlo’s home market fell by 5.4 per cent on the back of heavy discounting and increased marketing investments.

Recently, it said it would be expanding into Germany to boost its European presence. It is also slated to open its largest flagship store in world in Shanghai on September 30.

In the US, it is opening 10 new stores in New Jersey, New York, Connecticut and California as well as an online shopping platform.

Uniqlo has 2327 stores worldwide, 847 of which are located in Japan.
