Japanese furniture chain heads to US

Japan’s furniture and home furnishings retailer Nitori is expanding into the US under the banner Aki-Home.

Nitori’s first two stores will open simultaneously in Tustin and Fullerton in Orange County, California on October 19.

The stores will be located in retail destination centres including the District at Tustin Legacy and Amerige Heights in Fullerton.

The Tustin location will measure 30,000 sqft and Fullerton at 20,000 sqft.

The stores will feature products for the home such as furniture, décor, housewares and accessories.

The Southern California area was chosen as the starting point for the US market due to its strong economy, population density, and diverse culture. Continued growth in the region and rising consumer demand for furniture and home furnishings were the reasons for choosing Orange County.

Nitori plans to continue expansion throughout the US as part of an aggressive growth strategy achieving brand recognition globally.

Founded in 1967, Nitori has 301 stores in Japan and 16 in Taiwan.
