HTC bulks up in India

HTC will grow its store network in India to 7000 within the next six to nine months.

The Taiwanese smartphone company says the massive expansion is aimed at fighting the competition.

“India is a very key market for us where we are investing very heavily,” says HTC India country head Faisal Siddiqui.

HTC currently has 4000 stores across the nation and has three distribution partners.

It is in tough competition with technology giants Samsung, Apple and local phone maker Micromax. The three companies led India’s smartphone market in the first quarter of 2013.

To attract India’s price-sensitive consumers, HTC plans to introduce handsets below its current lowest price point of Rs12,000 ($192).
