Dufry enters Taiwan

Travel retailer Dufry is to open its first duty free store in Taiwan.

Dufry has partnered with Taiwan Land Development Corporation (TLDC) to anchor the Wind Lion Plaza development on Kinmen Island, which is scheduled to open its first phase in the first half of 2014.

It will open a 3000 sqm store that will offer liquor, tobacco, perfume and cosmetics, fashion, accessories, watches and jewellery and confectionery.

Kinmen Island, which recorded 2 million Chinese and Taiwanese arrivals in 2012, has been designated by the Taiwan government as a duty free island.

Dufry CEO Julian Diaz says their entry to Taiwan is an important step in the development of its presence in Asia.

“The new project in Kinmen is a first step to develop the duty free activities in Greater China and perfectly complements our existing duty paid operations in the region,” said Diaz.
