New retail giant for Philippines

A company owned by former senator Manuel Villar is banking on in the increasing purchasing power of the Filipinos.

MBV Retail Holdings Corp is setting up a company branded All Group that will establish and manage a convenience chain, home and appliance shops and department stores.

The Villar Group will rebrand its existing 80 convenience stores ‘Finds’ into ‘All Day’ expected to have a store count of 100 by the end of the year and 200 by 2014.

The former senator said the ‘All Day’ convenience chain aims to become a major player in the sector dominated by 7-Eleven and Ministop.

The home and appliance shops dubbed as ‘All Home’ will support the group’s existing real estate company Vista Land & Lifescapes which have already built 250,000 homes in 33 provinces. There are five ‘All Home’ stores currently operating in Antipolo, Muntinlupa, Metropolis Alabang, Pampanga and Bulacan.

The department stores will be expanded along with the development of Starmall shopping malls.

Already a big player in property, Villar wants to become a major player in Philippines retailing as well.

“We want to capitalise on our being the country’s largest home builder,” he said.

MBV also plans to open other retail formats in the future such as drugstores.
