Asus plans Indian expansion

Notebook maker Asus plans to expand its presence in India to increase its market share.

Asus says it will open 120 new exclusive retail stores across India to take its store count to 200 by March 2014.

The expansion plan is aimed at increasing the company’s share of India’s consumer notebook market. It is targeting a market share of 10 per cent by December this year, up from about six per cent last year.

Unaez Quraishi, Asus’ director of sales and distribution, says the company is anticipating a big traction in phablets (smartphones with tablet functionality) next year as many people could not afford to have two gadgets.
