Sprooki expands to Philippines

Filipinos love of smartphones and shopping has attracted Sprooki to expand its reach there.

Sprooki, Asia Pacific’s local marketing system, has launched a mobile app called SSI Life, available on Android and iOS, for Filipino specialty store retailer Stores Specialists Incorporated.

Based in Singapore, Sprooki is a location-based mobile commerce service that lets retail shops send targeted messages and promotions to potential customers who are passing by via their smartphones.

The Philippine expansion follows its move to Taiwan through collaboration with business development consulting organisation IBTP.

While feature phones are still the more prevalent type of phones in the Philippines, the smartphone market in the country grew the fastest among Southeast Asian countries, according to a study by GfK.

GfK Asia said the market share of smartphones in the Philippines rose from nine per cent to 24 per cent within the year.

And Sprooki says it is banking on in this trend, together with shopping mall boom in the country.
