Asos enters China

British online retailer Asos will soon be launching its e-commerce offer in China.

Asos says it is in the final testing stage of its local language China e-commerce site which could go live in the next few weeks.

Founded as As Seen On Screen Ltd in 2000, Asos sells more than 60,000 branded and own-label products and boasts 7 million active customers.

It achieved a strong performance in the year to August with sales up 40 per cent.

Profit before tax and exceptional items grew 23 per cent to £54.7 million, boosted by the international market, which accounted for 63 per cent of its sales.

“During the year we continued to make progress towards our goal of being the world’s number one fashion destination for 20-somethings. We reached the milestone of 7 million active customers worldwide, following significant investment in our product offer, delivery options, customer experience and marketing,” said Asos CEO Nick Robertson.

Asos is targeting to hit £1 billion sales and it says the China launch and higher levels of investment will drive further growth.

“Our £1 billion sales target is now firmly in our sights and we have stepped up our investment in people, technology, logistics and marketing to support the significant global potential of the Asos business,” Robertson said.
