Johnston & Murphy plans India stores

US premium footwear brand Johnston & Murphy plans to open 10-12 exclusives stores in India in four years.

The brand has been operating in India since last year through distribution partner Elite Group.

“After we got a very encouraging response to our products in India we decided to expand through retailing in the country,” said Johnston & Murphy president Jonathan Caplan.

“We are setting up our first exclusive store in Mumbai this week and are targeting to add another 10-11 such outlets in next three to four years,” he said.

The brand is also looking to accelerate expansion by setting up shops-in-shops.

“We are in talks with retailers like Regal, Inc 5, Collective for shop-in-shop option. We are also looking at Shoppers’ Stop and Lifestyle, who cater to both mass as well as premium budget, for such purpose,” says Caplan.
