Germans launch Indonesian online store

German online startup incubator Rocket Internet has launched an online marketplace Lamido in Indonesia.

Lamido is said to be the first C2C online marketplace to offer cash on delivery (COD) in the country. Like its rivals Tokopedia and BukaLapak, it also offers escrow payments to users.

Lazada, Rocket Internet’s online department store in Indonesia which recently launched its own marketplace, will help Lamido in its operations. Both will share the logistics, operations and other technical know-how.

According to Lamido MD Giacomo Ficari, what differentiates Lamido from Lazada is the scale of sellers. Most who set up shops at Lazada are big time sellers while at Lamido are small and medium-sized sellers.

At the moment, Lamido remains free for merchants but intends to monetise through premium listings, commissions and ads.
