Citizens of Humanity debuts in Japan

Denim brand Citizens of Humanity has opened its first freestanding store in Japan.

Located in Tokyo’s Garden Square Harajuku, the store spans 1040 sqft and showcases the brand, its products and serves as a venue for a number of cultural events.

The store houses a curated mix of women’s and men’s apparel, including limited edition products from the brand’s “Just Like You” philanthropic film series.

In addition, the shop allows the brand to showcase special collaborations and goods such as unique accessories, books, magazines, home decor, photography, food and art incorporating Fabric Brand and Co Denim, Getting Back to Square One knitwear, a curated selection of photography and art books, Le Feu candles, Photography by Kassia Meador and Accessories from RTH Designs.

“Japan is an incredibly important and influential market. The Japanese consumer has a sense of style and appreciation for beautifully designed and crafted products. With the rich history of denim and indigo products, it is a country and a people that inspire us as we create new products,” said Citizens of Humanity founder Jerome Dahan.

The environment of the store reflects the relaxed, contemporary style of the brand, as well as the people and places that most influenced Dahan’s vision at the start-from pop culture icons such as Jane Birkin and Serge Gainsbourg during his youth in Paris to street art and beach life in his more recent years in Southern California.

The store is the first apparel shop in Japan to use the high-tech Apple “square” system and, in the midst of it all, a “fitting salon” where customers can relax and enjoy the brand atmosphere with coffee and sweet treats while trying on the newest brand styles.

The store’s vision is to have a place where people can get together with regular events and special guests to produce art gallery shows and show various lifestyles and cultures.
