Robinsons Retail acquires grocer

The Philippines’ Robinsons Retail has acquired Eurogrocer Corp for 290 million pesos ($6.6 million).

Eurogrocer operates six supermarkets in Tarlac and northern Luzon under brands EZ Mart and EZ Supermarket.

“The acquisition allows Robinsons Retail to expand its presence in the province of Tarlac and nearby provinces in the central and northern Luzon,” the company said.

The acquisition comes after Robinsons Retail raised 26.79 billion pesos ($611.9 million) through an IPO, which will be used to expand its stores from 982 as of September to 1400 by next year.

Robinsons Retail operates Robinsons Supermarket, Robinsons Department Store, Ministop, South Star Drug, Handyman Do it Best and True Value hardware shops, Howards Storage World houseware shop, Robinsons Appliance, Toys “R” Us and Saizen specialty store. The company also represents international apparel brands Topshop, Topman, Dorothy Perkins, Warehouse, G2000, among others.

The company said net income surged 128 per cent to 2.04 billion pesos ($46.6 million) in the January to September period.
