Amante aims top spot in India

Sri Lanka’s Amante is aiming to be India’s leading lingerie brand.

Amante launched in India about five years ago and is present in 400 multi-brand operators and 150 large format stores, such as Shoppers Stop, Westside, Central, Globus and Lifestyle, across India.

It says it is growing at a pace of 30 to 40 per cent year on year and targets to hit Rs100 crore (around US$16 million) in the next few years.

CEO Vivek Mehta of MAS Holdings, parent company of Amante, said that they also plans to bring the recently acquired UK brand Ultimo to India.

India’s lingerie industry is currently valued at Rs12,000 crore (around US$2.2 billion) and has a potential customer base of around 400 million women.

Mehta also says the company is exploring opportunities to expand to other countries like Indonesia and Malaysia.
