Colombian coffee chain Juan Valdez plans expanding into Asia.

Juan Valdez will open its first store in Korea in February 2014, says Colombia’s ambassador to Seoul Jaime Cabal.

“In February, the first Juan Valdez store in Seoul will open and it will carry souvenirs, clothing and other promotional products,” said Cabal.

Cabal said the chain chose to make its Asian debut in Korea because Koreans have an “elevated knowledge” about Colombian coffee.

Juan Valdez plans to grow its presence in Korea to up to 400 stores in the next five years, adds Cabal.

The coffee chain also plans expanding to other Asian countries, he said.
