Godiva, Faberge eye India

Belgium chocolate brand Godiva and Russian jeweller Faberge are enthusiastic to expand into India.

Godiva says India is an important part of its East strategy and it wants to open a store in the country soon.

“Indian tourists already experience Godiva in stores such as London and Paris. The key challenge will be to understand the local market and adapt out products and services to Indian tastes,” said Guillaume de Foucalt, VP of Godiva Chocolatier, at the India Summit 2013 in London.

Meanwhile, Faberge, recently acquired by British gemstones producer Gemfields, plans to build a gem-cutting base in Jaipur.

“A lot of our rough material goes to India and the cutting is largely done in Jaipur. We aim to create jewels that tell a story and have genuine character,” said Faberge MD and creative director Katharina Flohr.
