Changi Airport achieves a record sales growth

Singapore’s Changi Airport achieved S$2 billion (US$1.6 billion) in retail sales in 2013.

Sales at duty free stores accounted 90 per cent of the total, with liquor, tobacco, perfumes, cosmetics, luxury goods, electronics and chocolates the most purchased goods at the airport.

Chinese shoppers were the biggest spenders, followed by Singaporeans, Indonesians, Australians and Indians.

“The retail sales are actually successful also because we have been adjusting a lot of our trade mix. We’re adjusting – we keep looking at market trends as well as the consumers’ taste development,” said Ivy Wong, senior VP for airside concessions at Changi Airport Group.

Changi Airport plans to continue to enhance the shopping experience by renovating 30 stores at its three terminals, a project to commence in the second half of 2014 for completion by April 2015.
