Indian online retailer expands offline

Indian online eyewear retailer Lenskart plans to open 100 bricks and mortar stores over the next two years.

Currently, Lenskart has seven offline stores under franchise agreements.

“The stores display a large range of eyewear. Customers can choose from them or those available on the website and place order online from the store, helping us expand our brand not just online but offline as well,” said Lenskart.com CEO and founder Peyush Bansal.

Lenskart competes with local retailers Lawrence and Mayo, Dayal Opticals and Titan Eye Plus as well as foreign brands.

Bansal said the offline expansion is aimed at capitalising on the burgeoning e-commerce sector and increasing its share in the Rs10,000 crore ($2 billion) Indian eyewear market.
