Food delivery companies merge

Singapore-based food delivery company Food Runner has acquired City Delivery in the Philippines.

The acquisition comes just eight months after the regionally focused Food Runner was set up, operating under the name Room Service Delivery in Singapore and Malaysia.

City Delivery was established in 2009 and provides a delivery service for prepared food, specialty food, groceries, and other consumer products. It has more than 350 restaurant and food partners, along with pharmacies and florists.

“The acquisition will allow us to learn and apply a level of expertise and experience that will complement and enhance our core services and capabilities, notably in optimising online engagement and customer service,” said City Delivery founder Ashley Jorge Kehyeng.

Food Runner CEO Lance Frey says the acquisition is part of the company’s expansion strategy in Southeast Asia.

“The Philippines has seen some of the fastest economic growth in Asia for several years now. Manila has benefited from high levels of investment and a growing middle class,” said Frey.
