Monki plans Asian stores

Swedish fashion brand Monki will open stores in Malaysia and China.

Monki, owned by H&M, will open a store in Kuala Lumpur on April 30 and another in Beijing later this year. It also plans to add more China stores in Jinan, Kunming, Zhuhai, Nanning and Chongqing.

Monki entered Asia for the first time in 2010, initially in Hong Kong and then 20 stores followed across Asia last year.

“There is a high demand for our fashion in Asia, so to be able to announce the opening of two new flagship stores in top locations in Beijing and Kuala Lumpur, is a proud moment for Monki,” said COO Lea Rytz Goldman.

The brand’s creative head, Catharina Frankander, said the stores will feature the ‘Sea of Scallops’ store concept which uses “playful exaggerations, surprising shapes and spatially misleading levels that cause a surreal effect”.

“Our design is about telling stories and creating new worlds. These worlds should be particularly colourful, extraordinarily beautiful and mysterious at the same time.”
