Thai retailer hits France

Thai company ICC International plans to open a trial store overseas.

ICC International is a subsidiary of Saha Group and operates fashion and cosmetics stores. The company is opening a boutique ‘BSC Summer All Year Round’ in Rue de Berri in Paris, France, to offer fashion, cosmetics, garments, lingerie and ornamental items.

VP Becky Russell said the time is ripe to build its own brand globally after more than two decades of manufacturing clothes for Western fashion brands. ICC has been the distributor of French brands such as Lacoste, Guy Laroche and Elle in Thailand.

He also said going to Paris is meaningful for the company.

“It is a challenge for a brand coming from a tropical country to have foothold in a Western market,” said Russell.

He said the overseas expansion is aimed at offsetting the sluggish growth in Thailand, where its January and February sales fell 30 per cent.
