UK’s Lush eyes India

British beauty brand Lush has sought permission from the Indian government to open single brand stores there.

Lush is currently awaiting approval from the Department of Industrial Policy and Promotion (DIPP) and plans to open its first store in Delhi before the year ends.

“Our investment will initially be limited to setting up and running a single shop in Delhi. If the market responds well, we plan to develop this into a multi-million pound investment as we expand our presence through bricks and mortar stores and, if the government allows it, online,” said Lush India project manager Rose Byfleet.

Lush currently runs 900 stores around the world and is looking to expand further into South America, Morocco, Jordan, Iran, Sudan, Egypt and Pakistan, among other markets.

The Indian government has already paved the way for a number of foreign retailers including Ikea, H&M and Decathlon to set up single brand stores in the country by clearing their investment proposals.
