Thai retailer eyes China

Thai consumer products company Saha Group plans to offset the slowing home market by seeking growth abroad.

The company has set up Thai One Mall Co to operate an online business in China in the second half of this year.

Thai One Mall Co is a joint venture between Saha’s subsidiaries ICC International, Saha Patthanapibul and Saha Patthana Interholdings and Chinese e-commerce site Tmall.com.

The e-commerce site has a registered capital of 5 million baht ($155,330) and will offer Thai products.

The political turmoil in Thailand has dampened consumption, hence, the move to expand into China, it says.

The company is also attracted to China’s e-commerce market which is projected to triple over the next three years.
